Which Emojis Can I use in my Kickstarter Story?
Recently, while working on the Kickstarter (or actually Quickstarter) campaign for the Plinthi wall mount, I made the frustrating discovery that adding Emojis to your Kickstarter story is much more difficult than you would imagine. I wanted to add a few Emojis scattered throughout the page just to add a little fun and visual interest to the page. There are a limitless number of Emojis in existence, but, it turns out, you will only be able to add an extremely limited subset to your Kickstarter page. The vast majority of Emoji’s will fail to display correctly.
Most Emojis will display as question mark icons or other error placeholders.
So, I decided to create a list of all the Emojis that will, at the time of this writing (6-21-2018) display correctly on Kickstarter. The method used to assemble this list is simple. I went to https://emojipedia.org/ and accessed the various sections of Emojis. Then I copied the entire list of Emoji’s, pasted it into my Kickstarter page, and refreshed to see which Emojis displayed correctly.
Copy/pasting all the Emojis revealed which displayed on the Kickstarter page.
One issue to note is that different browsers have varying levels of support for Emojis in general. Right now, Chrome has smallest set of supported Emojis. Since potential Backers to your Kickstarter campaign might visit from any browser, Chrome becomes the kind of limiting reagent for using Emojis. So, the list of Kickstarter-compatible Emojis below should all work in all browsers (they have in all the browsers I tested). Lastly, some Emojis will display, but only in single color glyphs. This might actually be a cool aesthetic in your campaign, but you might want to use full color Emojis.
